Drinkable water is the new 'oil'

“The evidence is clear that there’s growing violence associated with fresh-water resources, both conflicts over access to water and especially attacks on civilian water systems.”

Uncle Wong and the Guardians protect Hong Kong protestors

Kudos to 82 year old Uncle Wong and his group known as The Guardians. They place themselves between the protestors and the police. The Guardians stated mission is “protect the children”

China kills people for their organs

Remember this article the next time you consider buying something 'Made in China' and plan to shop at a Dollar store (which is overflowing with "Made in China' junk)

Trump is a hypocrite but correct

Wow! It's truly hypocritical of 'colonial' American president Trump to warn African leaders about 'colonial' China but for once, he's correct. Cash-rich China is fond of making generous loans to African countries to build railways that no one uses, highways to nowhere, and shipping ports that no shipper uses. Then, when the African country can't make the payments, China repossess the infrastructure and gets its hands on a few natural resources to boot.

Holland is building the world's largest solar panel farm

"Dutch engineers are building what will be the world’s largest archipelago of islands made up of sun-tracking solar panels.
Growing resistance to the construction of wind turbines or fields of solar panels on land has led the renewable energy industry to look for alternative options. Large islands of solar panels are under construction or already in place in reservoirs and lakes across the Netherlands, China, the UK and Japan."

Should I go 'Goth'?

Really? Young people kicked off the subway because of their 'heavy make up and dark lipstick?' Get over it people and more importantly - mind your own business.

Actually, I kind of like the look. But if subway passengers are 'distressed' by a 20 year old in Goth, I image they'd have a heart attack when this 73 year old does the same

Boycott self-checkout machines

Yes! My boycott of self-checkout machines is working.

Hoping that my boycott of Tim Hortons and the Dollarstore and anything made in China will next produce victory.

Nevsun Resources fights slavery charge

The Canadian mining company Nevsun Resources has the audacity to claim that African miners have no right to sue the Canadian company for human rights violations (slavery) because it happened in Africa. Shame on Nevsun. Interestingly, the criminal execs at Nevsun recently sold the company to the Chinese, who know a thing or two about human-rights violations.

The UN Blue Helmets are our best option

Canada hasn't had a Prime Minister that didn't take orders from America since Kim Campbell was PM (1993).

The big three countries have under-staffed and under-funded the Blue Helmets for decades because America, Russia and China don't want a neutral, armed police force interfering with their military's enforcement of the big three's economic and political agenda.

Want to live long? Shun medications

All drugs have side effects. This blood pressure med causes cancer. What's the best med for high blood pressure? Exercise and diet. My doc once put me on diuretics for my borderline high blood pressure - hated what the pills did to my body - so instead I changed my diet, stepped up my exercise routine, dropped 6 lbs.

I'm now 72 and still med free.

Chinese robots make junk, College degree worth $45K, distracted Austrians

The future of 'Made in China': Industrial robots replacing dwindling workforce

Chinese manufacturers are running out of young people willing to work for slave wages so the government has begun to invest heavily in robots. In this stainless steel sink manufacturing plant, nine robots have replaced a couple hundred workers.

Now you know why 'Made in China' translates to 'Crap Made without Care'

Education pays: New study shows average salaries by degree, diploma

Interesting study reveals that grads with a Bachelor of Arts Degree generally earn $45K their first year out of school and could reach the $75K mark after eight years or so. Math, computer science and engineering grads earn the most.

Why didn't someone tell me this years ago? This financially-challenged sap really believed that people enrolled in university to become a more rounded, well-informed person. What an idiot I was!

What's your problem with McDonald's? Dead neonic bees, Chinese kick butt

What is the problem Italians! I'm no fan of McDonald's - mostly because their food is full of fat, salt and sugar - all ingredients to be avoided if one isn't fond of open-heart surgery, diabetes, and high blood pressure BUT.... how can you ban McDonald's while allowing Italian restaurants, which often serve equally unhealthy food, to open. And who cares how close to a church McDonalds opens its restaurant. I doubt that God cares.

And in terms of 'eyesores', I think that McDonalds in Europe has does a pretty good job of designing their outlets to sort of fit in with the surrounding architecture.

So Florentines, please don't ban Ronald McDonald. I won't eat his fast food but I sure love his WiFi and free washrooms.

Congrats to the people of Lubu, China. It seems as if the Chinese people are getting tired of breathing polluted air, drinking polluted water and walking on polluted ground.

It seems the people of Canada and the United States are not getting the message that the as the widely used pesticides called neonicotinoids, or neonics are killing honey bees by the millions. The same honey bees that are essential for pollinating the food we eat.

Congrats to the Keep Hives Alive Tour people in their fight against the government's and the chemical company's carelessness.

Ikea blamed for parent's incompetence, banning cars, his wife's gutsy fight

OK.... tell me what I am missing?.... Ikea, who I am no fan of but nevertheless, has to shoulder the expense of recalling millions of dressers because the securing strap they supplied in the box and was mentioned in the instructions as being "important' to install was NOT installed by the idiot parent(s) who assembled the dresser.... so the death of those kids is Ikea's fault?

America, China and Russia lust for better bombs

Russia parades its newest continental missile

"The United States, Russia and China are now aggressively pursuing a new generation of smaller, less destructive nuclear weapons. The buildups threaten to revive a Cold War-era arms race and unsettle the balance of destructive force among nations that has kept the nuclear peace for more than a half-century."

Street activist Joshua Wong, 19, starts his own political party

"Joshua Wong, 19, is the most successful street activist in Hong Kong.

His televised arrest in September 2014 helped spark pro-democracy protests that would continue for 79 days, paralysing the heart of the city.

But they ultimately failed to win any concessions from the Chinese government on greater voting rights for the territory's residents.

Mindful of that failure, Mr Wong is stepping into an unfamiliar role: general secretary of a new political party called Demosisto.

"Street activism is not enough if we want to fight for a better future," he tells me. "We have to enter the system, create a political party and shape the political agenda, in order to drive forward our movement for self-determination."
