Happy Father's Day to my Dad and all Dads

Our Dad - James C. Russell - 1920 to 2002

"Never dreamed that he would be gone from me.
If I could steal one final glance, one final step, one final dance with him
I’d play a song that would never, ever end
‘Cause I’d love, love, love
To dance with my father again"

.... "Dance with my father"... lyrics by Luther Vandross

Negligent parents, taxing pop, Fathers Day: Lane Graves, Philadelphia, Dads binoculars

Orlando alligator attack: charges unlikely for Lane Graves' parents - AL.com

In 'my world' these parents should be arrested, charged, tried and, if convicted, put in jail. Kids are a huge responsibility and if a care-giver - be it a parent, or grandparent, or uncle, or aunt, or daycare worker - fails to protect a child from alligators, or traffic, or disease, or sugary foods, or 'troubled' people - then they should at least be charged with negligence.

The parents of 2 year old Lane Grave's allowed their child to wade in a body of water clearly signed "No swimming" - how much cleared could it be? No swimming means stay out of the water. No doubt Lane's parents will excuse themselves because the sign didn't read "No swimming because there are alligators in the water". And the local sheriff will excuse him or herself from performing their duty because they hold elected positions and arresting the parents of a dead child is likely to lose them votes in the next election.

Philadelphia to bring in 'soda tax' to fight obesity - BBC News

Congrats to the people of Philadelphia who successfully forced a 'sugar levy' on companies that manufacture sugar-filled, carbonated soft drinks. And shame on those same soft drink companies, led by multimillionaire Harold Honickman, for spending millions of dollars to fight for their right to poison Americans.

Happy Birthday re: Michelle Ramsay and J. Gilles Boulais

Music helps babies learn to speak

"Babies who engage in musical play may have an easier time picking up language skills, suggested a study Monday.

U.S. researchers compared nine-month-old babies who played with toys and trucks to those who practiced banging out a rhythm during a series of play sessions.

They found that the musical group showed more brain activity in regions involved with detecting patterns, an important skill when it comes to learning language."

I can't remember singing to my children - it was a long, long time ago - but I do remember singing to my grandchildren Zyg and Mila when they were just infants. I hope it helped them.

Happy Anniversary to Me

Hey all you lovely folks in the Blogsphere. Today is the second anniversary of this blog (Yeahhhhhh!)

I started this blog April 4, two days shy of a month after my ex - Michelle Ramsay - cut off access to my grandchildren Zyg Ramsay and Mila Ramsay. This blog was the only avenue I had left to establish an electronic paper trail that, years from now, would lead my lovely grandchildren to me, or if I have already reached the end of my life, remind them that I never stopped loving or thinking of them.

Over the past 738 blog posts, my following has grown from zero to many tens of thousands. I thank each and every one of you and I hope my posts about Mother Earth, nutrition, non-violence, fitness, anti-euthanasia, my Family Court battle (see It's Over), politics, ethics, birthdays and passings have been both entertaining, informative, controversial, and creative.

Peace,

James

Grandfather misses you Zyg Ramsay and Mila Ramsay

Los Angeles, Long Beach Freeway, March 6, 3:04pm - "You are no longer welcome in our home!"

Dear Zyg and Mila:

It's been two years since I heard those fateful words and not a day has passed that I haven't thought about the two of you. My only hope is that someday - perhaps years from now - you will read this post and realise that the explanation your Grandmother gave you for my sudden disappearance from your lives was less than the truth and that A.G. never 'just chose' to leave you.

Love you with all my heart and miss you,

Grandfather (A.G.)

Happy Thanksgiving Zyg and Mila Ramsay

Happy (American) Thanksgiving Zyg and Mila.

Dear Zyg and Mila:

It has now been 731 days since I last saw your lovely faces and 22 months since she succeeded in cutting me off from you.

It is your country's Thanksgiving, but it is me who is thankful that the two of you came into my life. Don't forget that not a day passes that Grandfather doesn't think of you and miss you.

Love you both,

Your Grandfather (A.G.)

"Kids need their mothers AND fathers" - media release

New billboard press conference - now

"Nearly half of all marriages end in divorce. When they do dads are being made increasingly irrelevant in the life of their kids, often as a result of spite or malice, with tragic consequences on children, families and communities.

These billboard ads are the second in a three part campaign sponsored by CAFE that is challenging social attitudes towards men's issues. Earlier this year a head-turning billboard called attention to male survivors of domestic violence.

Since the alienated parent is most often the father, the effects of parental alienation combine with a biased family court system to result in the forced absence of dads from the lives of their children. Research shows fatherless children are more likely to drop out of school, engage in substance abuse, become incarcerated or pregnant as teenagers."... CCMF

How to make a time capsule

Ever wanted to make a 100+ year time capsule? Recently I've given it some thought and I must admit that the list of stuff I'd include becomes longer every day... here's what's on my list so far.

. My trusty - and already ancient - flip cell phone
. A DVD that contains an Excel spreadsheet of my family tree and family photos
. A love letter to my children
. A love letter to my grandchildren
. A pair of my cuff links
. My tattered Boy Scout leader shirt
. A DVD of the Wizard of Oz (because it pretty well sums up everything anyone needs to know about life and loving)
. A DVD compilation of protest and civil rights songs from the '60
. An IWC wrist watch)
. A recent selfie of me and my wonderful wife
. A copy of the Sunday New York Times (minus the annoying advertising inserts)

.... and the list continues to grow.

What about you? What would you put in your time capsule? Here are some tips from the
 New York Times
