Uber and self-driving cars aren't the answer. Cheap oil is good and bad. Don't pay your Visa bill



Writer Kevin Cashman makes a good point. Cities need better public transportation - not Uber and self-driving cars. As entranced we are with new technology we have to remember that lots of city residents can't afford Uber fare, much less a self-driving car. Public transportation is for everyone - Uber and cars are for the few.

On the one hand, I'm always glad when the price of oil drops because it means that removing it from the ground becomes less attractive for oil companies - especially the ones that go after hard-to-get or dirty oil. I'm referring to the companies that use fracking methods and the companies that mine the Alberta oil sands.

But on the other hand, cheap oil means cheap gas, which means that we will be driving more and buying bigger and bigger gas-guzzling cars and trucks.

Why?

Because the 500 mile wide asteroid named 101955 Bennu WILL PROBABLY hit earth and destroy all life.

True, impact is not likely to occur until 2175 but hey, you could put off the collection agency people for another hundred and fifty years or so.
