Bill C-42 will erode licensing and controls
on handguns and assault weapons.
Initiated by Minister of Public Safety Steven Blaney, Bill C-42 ("Common Sense Firearms Bill") intends to:
- Relax controls on handguns and assault weapons;
- Relax controls on gun owner licenses;
- Allow politicians, instead of qualified members of the RCMP, to determine which weapons are prohibited or restricted, increasing gun industry and the gun lobby influence over public safety decisions.
