Jeffrey vs. DC Comics: A 'lose-lose' scenario

Sculptor Todd Boyce created this bronze statue of 5 year old Jeffrey Baldwin wearing a Superman costume but DC Comics objected.

Both sides of this story lose. DC gets the bad press and the world won't get to see Jeffrey as his favourite costumed hero.

As a Corporate Communications Specialist I can understand that DC doesn't want their Superman brand associated with the murder of a child.

Although monsters exist in both the comic book world and the real world, the difference is that in the comic book world Superman would have saved little Jeffrey's life.

One of society's main jobs is to protect children. In Jeffrey's case society failed... we failed... I failed. And that breaks my heart.

"Let's save all the children
Save the babies, save the babies
If you wanna love, you got to save the babies
All of the children
Who's willing to try
... to save a world that is destined to die.

... singer Marvin Gaye, "Save the Children"
