Just attended the AGM for the Canadian Association for Equality (CAFE). Met some lovely people like Eleanor, and Denise, and Robert, and Jeff, and learned some interesting things about the disgraceful state of men's rights here in Canada (and around the world)
- Female genital mutilation is illegal in Canada but male genital mutilation is widely practiced and legal (circumcision)
- The Military Act of 1917 makes military service compulsory for men but exempts women
- A man has no parental rights when his child is born - it is the woman's choice if she wants to name him as the father of the child
- According to Bill C233 - a mother can kill her child and claim Diminished Responsibility (max sentence is 5 years) but a father cannot claim DR and is therefore likely to be sentenced for much longer term
- Men's health care throughout the world is severely underfunded (according to the U.N.), for instance, in Canada, Prostate cancer research receives half the number of dollars that breast cancer research receives yet more men die of prostate cancer than women of breast cancer
- Children are the victims of the majority of domestic violence incidents in Canada and in the majority of those cases it is women who are the perpetrators
- There is one domestic assault shelter for men in Canada/ 90 for women
